Liar! Liar!

August 18th 2008 08:00
They open their mouth and the words spill out
This time they will whisper, that time they will shout
But all share a common, insidious feature
That indeed is a hallmark of the human creature
That between the tale and reality
There's an indiscretion for us to see.

So why this curious ill intent
So many have; to misrepresent?
Well the reasons are as varied a thing
As the gaping mouths from which they spring

Perhaps they lie for they intend
To avoid words that may offend
When asked for truth we often find
A friendly fib is much more kind

Other times the truth may seem a bit
To a few; Inadequate
They feel as though the facts are boring
Enough to set people snoring

So these folk may take to mention
Untruths to claim our attention
Feeling that it’s simply fine
To gloss truth with a truthless shine

This fabrication may also stem
From how THEY think WE see THEM
Unless they fill their words with puff
They fear they may not appear enough

Some though filled with intent and malice
Use lies to poison every chalice
These evil social engineers
Exploit our very hopes and fears

Their actions are driven on the wholes
By reaching certain aims and goals
Which are so worthy – they’re believing –
It justifies this dark deceiving.

Some lies are told in the situation
Where truth would lead to devastation
And lies will let the danger pass
Where truth is a rock in a house of glass

Of every lie in every nation
There’s every kind of motivation
For peddling lies to me and you
Beyond comprehension; and that is true.

Brenton Clutterbuck.

Rebranding Saves The Day!

July 19th 2007 04:58
It's taken a long time to work it out but Madison Avenue, the home of International Advertising in NYC has come up with the solution to the situation in Iraq. The answer is to rebrand the military so as to ensure more warmth and fuzziness after some of the unpleasantries. The study to achieve this result was commissioned by the US Joint Forces Command.
Now and Forever

Today's Headline Poem is based on a Headline in the Sydney Morning Herald on July 19-2007 that goes like this

Anybody wanting to get out of their marriage in Austria now has the opportunity of attending special Divorce Fairs to help them chat with lawyers, car salesmen and anybody else who might be of assistance in smoothing out the whole horrible process. Men and women will be able to attend on different days so as not to reinvigorate old problems.

IS BIGGER REALLY BETTER?

July 13th 2007 05:04
Wouldn't you love it if nothing ever annoyed you...if nobody ever did anything stupid like buy really BIG TELEVISIONS just because they wanted to have a BIGGER ONE THAN THE GUY NEXT DOOR!!!

Renowned Environmentalist President George W. Bush does NOT agree! This is what he said in September 2002

HEADLINE POETRY 2

July 11th 2007 04:37
To recap, the idea of Headline Poetry is to take the letters which make up an existing Newspaper Headline in order and use them as the first letters of new words to create a poem which is relevant to the original story and headline. The following Headline comes from the Sydney Morning Herald on July 11-2007. It leads a story about the Australian Prime Minister's view of things in Iraq.

"NO DOUBT US WILL STAY COURSE IN IRAQ, SAYS PM"
