A Lament by Shelley
October 17th 2006 02:49
This poem is about lost youth and I'm sure is something that everyone has the chance to relate to at some stage in life.
A Lament
O World! O Life! O Time!
On whose last steps I climb,
Trembling at that where I had stood before;
When will return the glory of your prime?
No more -Oh, never more!
Out of the day and night
A joy has taken flight:
Fresh spring, and summer, and winter hoar
Move my faint heart with grief, but with delight
No more -Oh, never more!
Percy Bysshe Shelley
It may seem a little dramatic, but I love that, it's seems to have gone completely out of style, forever, perhaps. I think by reading and re-connecting with classic works of poetry we can bring back an appreciation of expressive and emotional words, because we are becoming numb and we need to find ways to communicate with each other again about the essential emotions that constitute our being.
